The first Brazilian event focused on the international aerospace industry and airport infrastructure, IBAS – International Brazil Air Show will bring together leaders of the global air segment to discuss the development of the sector in Latin America, responsible for 1.4% Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product), R$25.1 billion, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The 2nd Edition of IBAS – International Brazil Air Show will be held on September 11th, 12th and 13th, 2019, at the GRU Airport – São Paulo International Airport. The first Brazilian event focused on the international aerospace industry and airport infrastructure, IBAS will bring together leaders of the global air segment to discuss the development of the sector in Latin America, responsible for 1.4% of Brazilian GDP, or R$25.1 billion, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The event, sponsored by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Ministry of Transport, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Brazilian Association of Airline Companies (ABEAR).
With a fundamental contribution to the economy, the air transport sector generates jobs, wealth and connects people. According to a report produced by Boeing, the Current Market Outlook (CMO) of 2017, in the analysis of the Latin American market evaluated by the study of US$250 billion, it is expected that, within 20 years, 3,01 thousand new commercial aircraft arrive the region. “Brazil alone accounts for 5% of the world business aviation market, with Latin America accounting for 7% overall. The total number of jobs in Brazil in 2014 is estimated at 1.6 million, plus direct, indirect and aviation-induced jobs and related sectors such as airports, land and aerospace services, as well as tourism” says Paula Faria, executive director of Sator.
The executive also said that the event will bring together government, companies, entities and that, during the three days, seminars, exhibitions and business rounds will be held. “We will bring together, in a single event, the aerospace chain, airport infrastructure and commercial and executive aviation suppliers. The 2nd Edition of IBAS – International Brazil Air Show – will have several activities and parallel events for exhibitors, sponsors and participants in general, generating opportunities for networking and business, as the participating audience will be composed of highly qualified professionals in related industries. Undoubtedly, it will be a unique opportunity to foster discussions and promote business among the sectors involved with this market, considered fundamental for Brazil and Latin America development. The agenda of IBAS – International Brazil Air Show 2019 contemplates different approaches related to the sector, such as: the Brazilian aerospace market in the international context; supply chain and the air cargo sector: trends, opportunities and challenges; innovation and Latin American creativity in the aerospace and air transport sectors; legal, financial and regulatory challenges in Latin America; new technologies and best practices in aviation training; the role of business aviation for the economic development of Latin America; general aviation: modernization of the sector for its full development; the importance of tourism for the sustainable economic development of air transport; challenges for air integration and the economic development of the sector in Latin America; trends, innovation and collaboration of the Air Traffic Control sector in Latin America; current stage and development of the space market in Latin America; the presence of women in the aviation and aerospace industry, among other things.
The sector in numbers
Currently, the Brazilian commercial aviation fleet is approximately 680 aircraft and the executive fleet is more than 1650 aircraft, according to data from the Brazilian Association of General Aviation (ABAG).
National Privatization Program
From 2012 to 2018, 10 airports were awarded to the private sector: São Gonçalo do Amarante (RN); Guarulhos (SP); Viracopos (SP); Brasília (DF); Galeão (RJ); Confins (MG); Fortaleza (CE); Salvador (BA); Florianópolis (SC); Porto Alegre (RS).
In the first quarter of 2019, according to the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), 13 airports that were included in the National Privatization Program will be privatized and will be awarded in regional blocks: The Northeast block will be formed by the following airports: Recife/PE, Maceió/AL, Aracaju/SE, João Pessoa/PB, Campina Grande/PB and Juazeiro do Norte/CE. Another block is the Midwest, with the concession of the airports of Cuiabá/MT, Sinop/MT, Barra do Garças/MT, Rondonópolis/MT and Alta Floresta/MT. Finally, in the Southeast block the airports of Vitória/ES and Macaé/RJ will be granted.
The government’s estimate for the next concessions is that the airports receive a total of R$ 8.5 billion in investments.
